FESTIVAL LYRICO VALLE D’ITRIA
Het Lyrisch Festival, ook wel het Festival della Valle d’Itria. Het is in Martina Franca in 1975 begonnen als een initiatief van een groep gepassioneerde muziek liefhebbers onder leiding van Alessandro Caroli. Hij was de eerste president van het festival. Ondersteund door Franco Punzi – vervolgens burgemeester van Martina Franca – en Paolo Grassi, die was toen superintendent bij het Teatro alla Scala. Sinds 1975 zijn er meer dan honderd opera’s gepresenteerd in het Festival della Valle d’Itria.
Dit Festival wordt jaarlijks gehouden van half juli t/m de eerste week van augustus en is vanuit B&B Villa Lavanda heel goed te bezoeken.

2024 Program
The Festival della Valle d’Itria in Martina Franca, one of the oldest summer events dedicated to opera and vocal music, the first in the South of Italy, reaches the milestone of 50 editions, proudly celebrating its history and reaffirming its role in the Italian and international scene as an ideal venue for the original and modern interpretation of that crucial segment and stylistic element of Italian lyrical singing, which is Belcanto.
With a history that has seen the Festival produce almost 200 titles, many of which have been rediscovered in modern times or re-proposed according to the most updated and suitable performance practices to convey their musical and dramaturgical values, this year’s edition does not hesitate to retrace the great history of Belcanto from the golden age of the Baroque period, to which its marvelous aesthetics remain indissolubly linked, to the fairy-tale and conscious 20th century character of Italian musical theater.
